The building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is part of historic Jeddah. The distinctive Red Sea architecture inspired by the city’s mercantile elites is clearly seen on its façade. The city grew as a flourishing port thanks to the monsoon wind driven maritime trade as well as a its role as a gateway to visit the holy site of Mecca. The city was influenced by all of these visitors that arrived from distant lands contributing to the everyday culture, tradition and cuisines. This building being the busiest thanks to the number of largescale visitors, traders and pilgrims is the best ambassador on the banknotes of this historic city’s skyline.
