Luxembourg : 100 Francs, 1980; Paper : Reverse ; size : 142 mm x 76 mm

Luxembourg has always been because of its strategic position one of Europe's greatest fortified sites.  Bastions and other fortifications, even if they have lost all military significance, still characterise city’s skyline as can be seen in this artistically rendered, miniature-style banknote. The Grand Ducal Palace located in the centre of the old town, was once home to Luxembourg City's first town hall whose origins date back to 1418, but is presently the official residence of the Grand Duke’s family. Luxembourg was amongst the first members of the eurozone and relinquished its banknotes to the euro. The commemorative 2-euro coin from 2007 rekindles the past glory of the old city and its Grand Palace.
